LONGCHAMP PLANETES vs LE PLIAGE

Longchamp might look the same..but What are the differences between Planetes and Le Pliage??these are specially for those who just have started their interest / collections of Longchamp. But of coz ler u all have tho read..PUPUK SEMANGAT MEMBACA TU BGUS.. :)

First of all, sellers use some terms interchangeably and this has caused some concern for buyers trying to minimize their risks of buying a fake Longchamp.  Also, the terms Le Pliage v. Les Pliages and Le Planete v. Les Planetes have been confusing.  Some buyers think a misspelled word is a warning that the tote is fake.  This really is not the case.
  • A quick French lesson:  The "Le" is a masculine pronoun and is singular.  The "Les" is the plural form.
  • Le Pliage really means ONE tote.
  • Les Pliages really means MORE THAN ONE tote.
Be careful in comparing the Les Pliages models and the Les Planetes models, because while these two totes have a very similar style, they are made of completely different materials.
  1. Les Pliages model is made of nylon canvas and enhanced with Russian leather.  The canvas is water resistant due to the interior PVC coating.  The material is very lightweight with some natural crispness to the eye and feel.  The appearance of a fake Les Pliages is usually shiny with a lot of gleen and a thicker look to the material.  An authentic Les Pliages is more of a matte appearance, lightweight, crisp and often retains the lines from its ability to be folded.
  2. Les Planetes model is made of a thicker PVC coated weatherized nylon.  It is much thicker than the Les Pliages model, has a smoother finish, where you do not see the fabric grains.  Is is not a foldable tote, and is very smooth with no creases and does not have the crisp look.  A fake Les Planetes might have the appearance of grains in the fabric and is more structured and rigid.
  3. HandlesLes Pliages model's handles and flap are of leather and have a grainy textured appearance and are very structured. However, be aware that one sign that a Longchamp may be fake is when the handles are too structured and hard because they have a cord inside them.  However, note that in pre-owned authentic Longchamps, especially the large shopper style, the handles can become softer from use.  The shopper tote is popular among college students and used as a book bag, which causes the handles to become stretched at times and softened.  Therefore, consider this when bidding on a used Les Pliages tote.
  4. Handles:  Les Planetes model's handles are less structured because they are made of a tonal color (same color as tote) in smooth leather or patent leather overlay which lends itself to a smoother and softer appearance.  They do not have the stiff structured look as the handles on a Les Pliages tote.  The patent leather handles do not usually stand up alone, especially if the tote has been used.  Again, as with the Les Pliages, if the handles are very structured and hard, this is a sign that it is a fake.  A disadvantage with the patent leather trim is wrinkling and sometimes even peeling on the straps where they attach to the tote.  The wrinkling is due to use from the  handles bending over each side when not being carried.
  5. Bottom corners:  A common occurrence in used totes, both the Les Pliages and Les Planetes models are tiny wear holes on the bottom four corners of the totes.  These holes are caused from wear when the totes are filled and/or are used to carry heavier items such as books.
